2010 Book Festival Author
Eva Augustin Rumpf

Author Biography

Eva Augustin Rumpf is the author of the satiric novel Prot U and co-author of Till Divorce Do Us Part, a self-help book for women in troubled marriages. She has been a free-lance writer for 30 years, publishing hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles. Several of her essays and articles have been syndicated nationally. Eva recently published her memoir, Reclamation: Memories from a New Orleans Girlhood. More information and a free excerpt can be found at www.booklocker.com/books/3982.html.

Eva, the eldest of three sisters, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she lived until she left to attend college in Elmhurst, Illinois. There she majored in English and graduated summa cum laude. At Elmhurst she met William (Bill) Rumpf, and they were married after her graduation. Eva and Bill have lived in Missouri, Texas, California and Wisconsin.

Eva began her professional career as a public school teacher of English and reading. After obtaining a Master's degree in journalism from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Eva worked for several years as a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal, while also teaching a university journalism class. She then entered the field of public relations as a publications editor and eventually became vice president of marketing and communications for a national non-profit organization.

Eva's interest in university teaching grew, and she accepted full-time positions teaching journalism and advising student media, first at Marquette University and later at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Many of the themes in the novel Prot U grew out of Eva's teaching and advising experiences.

Eva now lives in Milwaukee with her husband, where she continues to write and occasionally teach writing workshops for adults. She and her husband adopted and raised their four children and now enjoy their four grandchildren. After writing, Eva's next favorite activity is reading, which is quite eclectic, spanning both fiction and non-fiction. She and her husband enjoy traveling, bird watching, bicycling and cross-country skiing.
