Sara Laux Akin is the author of the children’s book Three Scoops and a Fig, published in 2010 by Peachtree Publishers. The story is about a little girl named Sofia, her family, cooking special foods, and finding your own way to make a contribution.
The Smithsonian magazine recommended Three Scoops and a Fig in its 2010 holiday gift guide of children’s books related to food. A Booklist review of the title described it as “graceful, satisfying text, filled with repetitive lines that read aloud well.” The book was named to Bank Street College’s Best Children’s Books 2011 list.
Akin's stories for children have also appeared in Ladybug and Highlights magazines.
In college Akin studied natural science and went on to earn a master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology. She lives with her family and dog in Wisconsin.
