The Journey of Writing a Mystery Series for Tweens

October 10, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

In this presentation, Brenda Felber shares her journey as writer of the middle-grade Pameroy Mystery Series. With each book set in a different state, the ideas for taking local histories and twisting them up with a bit of paranormal to create the mystery is a fun process for the students to witness.

She opens with the inspirations for her books. Engaging visuals help tweens see the world around them with fresh eyes. Brenda also uses this portion to encourage tweens to take their natural curiosity a step further and begin imagining a plotline for their own story.

Students are shown the research and development phase of the writing processes with actual examples of a work in progress. They are given a peek into how dreaming about writing a story can happen, but that hard work and perseverance is a necessary part of becoming a published author.

Taking it all a step further, Brenda explains that a modern writer can also become an Authorpreneur…an author creating her own business. From setting up a publishing company to continually learning in the ever-evolving marketing world, she hopes that sharing her story will excite students with possibilities for their own creative journey.
