Patricia Skalka is a nationally published freelance writer and award-winning author of the Dave Cubiak Door County mysteries. Death in Cold Water, the most recent book, won the 2017 Edna Ferber Fiction Book Award from the Council for Wisconsin Writers. Death Stalks Door County, the first volume, was short-listed for the Chicago Writers Association Book of the Year Award. Death at Gills Rock, the second book in the series, was named one of the Year’s Best Books by Chicago Book Review. Currently, she is working on book four in what Kirkus Reviews calls “a first rate series.”

When she’s not writing, Skalka presents craft talks and workshops. Recently, she appeared at the University of Wisconsin – Madison Writer’s Institute and the Untitled Town Author and Book Festival.in Green Bay.
A Chicago native, Skalka is a former Reader’s Digest Staff Writer with articles in national print and online publications and nonfiction books published by Random House, St. Martin’s, and Rodale. She is a member of The Authors Guild of America, Wisconsin Writers Association, Mystery Writers of America, and Society of Midland Authors.
