Alan Gratz is the bestselling author of seventeen novels for young readers. His 2017 novel, Refugee has spent more than two years on the New York Times bestseller list, and is the winner of 14 state awards. Its other accolades include the Sydney Taylor Book Award, the National Jewish Book Award, the Cybils Middle Grade Fiction Award, a Charlotte Huck Award Honor, and a Malka Penn Award for Human Rights Honor. Refugee was also a Global Read Aloud Book for 2018. Alan’s 2021 novel, Ground Zero was an instant #1 New York Times bestseller, and was an ABA Indie, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller. His 2019 novel, Allies debuted at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list and received four starred reviews, and 2018’s Grenade debuted at #3. His other books include, Prisoner B-3087, which was a YALSA Best Fiction for Young Readers pick and winner of eight state awards; Projekt 1065, a Kirkus Best Middle Grade Book of 2016 and winner of five state awards; Code of Honor, a YALSA Quick Pick for Young Readers; and Ban This Book, which was featured by Whoopi Goldberg on The View. Join us on FRIDAY, MAY 27TH AT 4:30PM at the Littl Join us on FRIDAY, MAY 27TH AT 4:30PM at the Little Chute Public Library for Native American Games. Part of the supplemental events for the 2022 Fox Cities Reads!

For all ages, no registration required! This session will include games from Native Alaska and Tribes around Indian Country. Inuit Stick-Pull, Run and Scream, and Ball Race will be featured. All games will start with a short historical and Native cultural presentation, demonstration, and then game play. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing for learning and playing some Native Traditional games.

About the Instructor: 
Paul is Wolf Clan and a proud member of the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin. He graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 1984; earned his Master of Tribal Administration and Governance from the University of Minnesota Duluth in May of 2018; and has enjoyed working in the Native Youth Development field ever since. Physical Education, Parks and Recreation Management and Native Traditional Games is his passion and has allowed him to live, work and play in Durango, CO, Santa Fe, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Tempe, AZ and at home on the Oneida Reservation. Paul also taught Physical Education and was the Recreation Director at the Indian Community School in Milwaukee, WI where he successfully implemented Native Traditional Games into both programs. In August of 2014 Paul completed his duties and responsibilities as an elected Tribal Councilman for the Oneida Nation, 12 years of serving his Community and Nation on the local, state, federal and international levels have been an invaluable experience for him.
