An Author’s Journey

October 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CDT

Each author’s journey to publication is unique. Lora Hyler will share the conventional paths and how she fast forwarded to become a published author after a public declaration. In an August 2017 Writer’s Digest article, Lora said she was seeking an agent and in December 2017 wrote a second article announcing she had landed a publisher. Lora has written professionally her entire career, beginning with radio news for NPR and ABC affiliates in Milwaukee. She’s always written creatively: short stories, screenplays and one adult novel.

She then set her sights on writing for middle grade children and joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She credits SCBWI for de-mystifying publishing a bit, leading her to a four-book deal with a Wisconsin publisher. Her published works are the first book in her middle grade series, The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes, featuring multicultural superheroes, science and spy gadgets. She is seeking a book to film deal. Her latest work, (pub. July 2020), is Our Bodies Stay Home, Our Imaginations Run Free which helps children around the world deal with the effects of coronavirus on their lives. She is currently working on book two in her three book series.
