Leota Ester Poetry Reading

Leota reads from her poetry collection, Crossing, a Caregiver’s Journey.

The poems are arranged by the seasons, as that is what his journey felt like: first you will hear him beginning to change, a budding.  As the Alzheimer’s Disease developed, the poems reflect our new relationship.  In the book, I share my questions, my emotions, and my appreciation for our time together.

The poems range from our early conversations, to describing surprises, the beginnings of watchfulness.  I learned to anticipate, to imagine and to create events and opportunities he could participate in. In the poems, I try to show that learning and accepting was key to his happiness.

My hope is that the listener/reader has some aha moments, thinking, yes, I could do that, or I can urge visitors to come, or I can feel comfortable taking my loved one out to things of interest, to sing old favorites, over and over, and, always, while crying, laughing as well.  I hope to encourage and comfort.
