Matthew Desmond’s presentations are at 6:30 PM at Menasha High on Thursday, April 11th and 10:00 AM at Lawrence Chapel on Friday, April 12th. Afterwards, don’t miss this “souper” event hosted by Appleton North.

The Appleton North High School theater program will present a readers theater style production, Homeless, not Hopeless on Friday, April 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the Appleton North High School Auditorium. A special soup dinner fundraiser will be served prior to the performance at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s commons area. Admission to the play is free, but there is a $15.00 donation requested for those partaking in the meal. Soup will be served in bowls created by students at Einstein Middle School. The bowls are included in the price of the meal. All proceeds from the dinner go to fund PILLARS, a homeless outreach program in the Fox Cities. This is a family friendly event and is open to all ages.

Homeless, not Hopeless will be presented by members of North High School’s theatre class who will be reading first-hand stories of homeless individuals as told in their own words. The performance will last approximately 45 minutes. A brief talkback led by staff members of PILLARS and members of the Appleton North DECA “ReThink Homeless Awareness Campaign” will focus on the issues of homelessness raised by the performance. The History Museum at the Castle’s travelling exhibit on the homeless in Appleton, (in)Visible, will be on display in the North Commons. The event is in conjunction with the Fox Cities Book Festival and author Matt Desmond who visited earlier in the week to discuss his book, EVICTED.
