If you are a YA fan, or know a young person looking for a good book, read on to learn about three more YA authors participating in 2020 Fox Cities Book Festival events.
Natalie Frank
A young person herself, Natalie Frank is the author of When Sea Becomes Cemetery, a historical fiction novel. When Sea Becomes Cemetery follows the stories of three men on opposite sides during World War II.
Frank attended the University of Virginia’s Young Writer’s Workshop as well as Northwestern’s University for Center Talent Development.
She is an avid volunteer, plays the violin, and is a cross country runner.
You can catch Natalie Frank at her talk “The Makings of History” on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 10:30 AM. She will share the inspiration behind her novel and discuss her research.
Liza Wiemer
Liza Wiemer is an award-winning educator who published her second novel in 2020. In The Assignment, students are instructed by their favorite teacher to advocate for genocide in a debate. The students instead take a stand. The Assignment is based on a real-life incident.
Wiemer’s debut YA novel, Hello?, was named a Goodreads Best Young Adult Novel of the Month. She was a graduate of UW-Madison and lives in Milwaukee.
“Teens Speak Up Against Injustice: The Story Behind The Assignment” will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 4 PM.
Claire Swinarski
Claire Swinarski is the author of What Happens Next, a middle grade novel about an astronomy-obsessed girl, Abby. Abby’s town will soon witness a solar eclipse, but ever since her sister was sent away for an easting disorder, Abby’s had a difficult time finding her excitement for this rare event.
Swinarski’s writing has appeared in Seventeen and The Washington Post. Her next novel, The Kate in Between, is set to come out May 2021.
On Friday, October 16, 2020 at 10 AM, Claire Swinarski will share about her novel “What Happens Next.”
